Special Needs

Hi, I have a level 2 in Childcare and Education and am currently working at a pre school, and am about to start my level 3 by going to college 1 evening a week.
I love working at the pre- school but my ideal job would be working at a nursery designed especially for children with physical and mental disabilities, I was just wondering if any of you know of anywhere like this, in the Bucks area. I would really appreciate your help.
Thank you.

Hi Ams
you have stumbled upon a 'hot' topic. I manage an 'opportunity' playgroup which only has pre-schoolers referred to us by Health Visitors, Drs. Speech therapists and Social Services. We are considered by professionals and parents to be very valuable, but our staff ratio is high 1:2 or 1:3 due to the needs of thechildren. We do not get any extra money above standard Gov vouchers and money is very tight.
In addition we are not seen as PC in terms of inclusion, which is the very reason many parents came to us in the first place, higher ratio's and specialist work. So it is a struggle to survive. You could try the wording, 'opportunity playgroup' to see if one is near by. Failing that spend a week with us, I have a spare room.

Hi Amy
Sorry, silly of me to write about us and then not give location.
I'm afraid it is not near you, near Brighton in fact, but you are welcome to stay at my place and then ofcourse explore Brighton.
Sue
