Did you have to sign a new contract? I did and there was no mention in the new contract of having to work two weeks in hand,the first we knew was when there was a deduction from our salary. Various explanations were given but none of which were consistant,this caused lots of stress for everybody concerned.

just thought i would clear something up for you i had to get the trade union involved to get an answer out of headoffice.
because of how there pay callender goes which is the middle of the month to the middle of the month if you were from one of the nurseries taken over (apart from leapfrog) from the 1st jan by there pay scale you would have only got 2 weeks money at the end of the month cause the last 2 weeks of jan goe to febs money!!! so some SMART idiot dicided to give us 2 extra weeks and be nice with out telling us!!!!
Then at the end of feb we get a letter saying that you owe us 2 weeks money we wnat it now. i checked and checked and yes we do owe them money.
But i think that it was unfair that they failed to notify us on this and cocked up BIG time (i just hope heads rolled) which we know they did not!!!

Surely if you realised that you had been paid 2 weeks money too much that there was something wrong. You all must of realised that you overpaid and they would take it back. Please correct me if im wrong. I do understand where your all coming from but if i had too much money paid to me i would query it. I believe thay should of been alot clearer in what they were doing.

No one knew they were over paid on the contrary most staff were underpaid. Jigsaw staff were paid monthly that is weekly pay x 52 weeks / 12 months to give the same amount every month. Without telling staff what they were doing, Leapfrog changed their pay to hourly and weekly, which meant that staff got paid for only 4 weeks in January instead of a monthly salary. This meant that staff lost money on their monthly pay. The over payment came because they got paid twice for 2 weeks in Jan/Feb but in real terms no one saw this in their wages. When you budget for a monthly income, mort, rent ,bills etc, it is a bit much when you find out you are short in your wages. I can't ask my bank manager if I could only pay for 4 weeks of my mortgage, but I will make it up in the next 5 week month, because Leapfrog changed the pay calender.

Can I mention that when our nurseries fouind out about this overpayment, whe was told ot ring someone to sort it out, yet when i rung I was told it was nothing to do with them, and passed me on to payrol- Now please can you tell me what kind of a fool signs their name on the bottom of a letter addressed to staff putting themselves incharge of a situation without knowing what their incharge of?!?!?!?

Thankyou for correcting me. Im sure ther were people thinking the same as i was but now you have explained it i understand.
I know im a person from the outside(used to be a Nursery Manager) but you all sound like your getting a bum deal and will be better off out of there. Im surprised you still have children within the nurseries if parents have read all these messages. Thats not meaning staff but management support (Not).

We did not have two extra weeks pay. We should have received a salary in January, we worked the whole of January and under Jigsaw it was a month in hand. We should have received 1/12th of our salary. We didn't. We got 4 weeks pay, which meant that most of us were short in our wages. The next month we got 4 weeks salary, BUT two of those weeks were the last two weeks in January, which we had already been paid for.(Which we entitled to because we work a month in hand)But because Leapfrog pay mid month to mid month it appeared that we had been paid twice. BUT NO EXTRA MONEY WAS IN OUR PAY PACKETS. WE DID NOT SPEND THE OVER PAYMENT BECAUSE WE DID NOT SEE ANY ADDITIONAL MONEY. What part of we didn't get any over payment in real terms do you not understand.

At a meeting with a senior person from Head Office it was admitted that we had to work two weeks in arrears, and by calling it an "overpayment" they can then recover the money legally.

Ok i really don't understand this girls so if we leave do we get the over payment back or not coz i am very confused, has there been an "overpayment" coz surely if they overpaid us they wouldnt be giving it us back whats the sens ein overpaying taking it back and giving it back to us can someone intelligent who understan ds please help.

Ok I'll try and explain again. If you worked for Jigsaw, for instance you were paid one twelfth of your salary every month. This meant that you got the same amount every month regardless of how many weeks in the month. We got paid on the 26th of the month, but payment was to the 30/31st of the month, and we were paid in arrears, that is we worked for a whole month before being paid. In January, Leapfrog decided that we all had to fall in line with their pay period, which is mid month to mid month. That meant that we would only have been entitled to the first two weeks pay in January. Obviously they couln't do this so they paid us for the first two weeks in January and the last two weeks in January. This meant we got 4 weeks pay NOT one twelfth of our salary, so most of us were short of money from the normal monthly pay. In February we got paid for the last two weeks of January(which technically we had already been paid for) and the first two weeks of February. So now we had been paid twice for the last two weeks in January, Hence the overpayment. This money was then to be recovered by taking a weeks money from us in the first two five week months in the year. If you leave you will not get any money back, as due to the change in pay calender we were not entitled to those last two weeks pay in January. Does that make it any clearer ?

yes thats clear, but they took back 1/2 weeks wages a month for 4 months with they last overpayment being taken in August.
However they still managed to get many peoples money wrong this month.
If that was any of us doing such a bad job we would have been disaplined by now.
Can put up with most things but when they start messing with my money I draw the line!!

Trouble is every body says that, but hey we are all still here, putting up with incorrect wages, bad conditions etc etc. Trouble is none of us really know if what they did was legal or not, I suspect not under the conditions of TUPE, but who is going to tell us. HO certainly won't volunteer any info to that effect.

It does make sense a bit now yes but they still say they overpaid us so y r we getting any money back anyway ?
