Weekly Rotas

Hi, my setting is the same as yours, we get our rota on the friday for the following week. It changes dramatically every week and usually the hours we are given change the dya before which is not very good for future planning! I like the sound of newsetting's rota system but they are long days, as they are in most settings!

I do the rota in our setting and i do it every Thursday. Our staff do one week of earlies then one week of lates. I only change the staffs shifts if people have holidays etc.The other times i get agency staff in to cover busy days and when more than one person is on holiday. The staff at our setting are flexible and they do not mind changing shifts which is good of them. We are quite laid back at our nursery and if staff need to change shifts due to doctors or what ever then the other staff do not mind changing shifts.

Thank you for your suggestions. I like your idea 'newsetting' as we all want a friday off! I shall suggest at work. Can i ask does anyones setting not have fixed days for their children? We would like to to be flexible for the families but again would find it hard to implement perment rotas.

how many staff do you have and what hours do you open? I can email you a copy of mine if you like if that would help things. Its so lovely that the girls get a long weekend to look forward to every 5 weeks. I think it is the fairest way.

Re: flexible for parents, no we dont do this. I think it would be a logistical nightmare as you would never know who was in and when. Unless you have a very large nursey and can afford to run at 70-80% occupancy then i dont think this is a viable idea.

Hi 'newsetting', Ive just been reading your post about your rota system, we are really struggling to sort our rotas out and I love the idea of a day off each week!! What sort of occupancy do you have and how many staff? Do they all work full time? Oh and how long a luch break do they get? Sorry for all the questions, but I'm intrigued!

Hi! My nursery is 30 places and we run at 100% occupancy every day. I have 10 nursery nurses who all work full time (40 hours per week over 4 days.) We have six babies (two staff) six tots (two staff) and 16 preschoolers (technically two staff but we have three every day) and one person floating. Two staff have a day off at a time. The lunch break is one hour. The float person covers lunches, but we need less staff over lunchtime as one of our rooms turns into a sleep room, hence less awake children to supervise! It works remarkebly well. The staff do 40 hours per week which is 10 hours per day over 4 days. The float works 10-6 for 5 days though.

were running about 60% at the mo and are registered for 56. We also struggle because some staff go to training on set days, e.g every tues pm or a wed pm. Id love to have a look at your rotas, thank you
