some times changing the name helps ie don't call it messy play call it numeracy or counting or name wrting even though you are doing it in a messy way .
if parents realise it maths or writting first then mess sometimes it helps
its all about learning but they feel messy play they learn nothing rename digging a hole to counting and measurement and many parenst love it ... but call it digging a hole adn see how big it is all they hear is dirt!!!!
