Qualifications gained in the States

Hi
I'm from the UK and I'm currently looking to study 'Child Development' in the States. It is a 2 year course, which after this time I hope to have a Associate of Applied Science Degree. (similar to UK Foundation Degree) If I decide to do only one year I will gain the Certificate, which is basically half the modules of the Degree. I want to find out if I can continue my studies back in the UK? Will my qualifications be recognized? Will potential employers recognize them? How do I find this out, before I start the course!
