New Jobs

Hi,
I have just been for an interview at a Day nursery. As this is my first job in this type of setting i was just looking for advice. If I get the job, should I go in and offer ideas that i have or should I just go along with what they are using in order not to offend.
Thanx

I think this all depends on your attatude in any job its difficult to go right in and start making changes its better to make yourself familiar with the routines of the children and the way the nursery is run before you can really know what you are talking about. Sometimes things the staff will be doing with a particular child may seem confusing however they best know the needs of that child so really you need some experience before you can start implementing your own ideas.

If it was me in this situation, I would go into the job and assess the situation first. Ask lots of questions about the routine, and things that happen, i.e discipline. Their ideas may be different to yours.
Most nurseries will have meetings either with whole staff, or within units, where you can express your new ideas. If you go in to a setting, (especially first job), you are likely to upset staff by trying to 'change their ways'. Hope this helps!

As a Nursery Manager I normally tell my new staff to observe what is happening in the room for a few weeks until they get used to the routine and the children, parents and staff. I am sure that once you settle in the staff and your manager will be thankful for any suggestions or new ideas that you have that they might not have thought of.

Hope this helps
Tina
