Did you go to your graduation ceremony?
I am trying to decide if I should go to my graduation ceremony in November or not.
Initially I thought I would not go because I thought I would not pass or would just scrape by at most, but I managed to gain a first class degree with honours and now I am wondering about going.
The problem is I studied via distance learning and it will cost me £200+ in train fare as well as hiring a gown etc which I cannot really afford. Secondly I will have to take a whole days leave just to attend a 2 hr ceremony. I am not really one for celebrations and ceremonies and tend not to enjoy being in the spotlight. But now I am so proud of myself I am thinking maybe I should go.
The other thing is I am not particularly impressed by the way the course was run, I don't particularly want to meet up with my tutors and I certainly don't want to join them in gloating about how wonderful the Uni is for getting all these students through their degrees, which I understand from previous students is pretty much the form it takes.
Did you go to your graduation ceremony? Did you think it was worth while? Is it worth £200 and a days leave?

I went to my graduation ceremony in July in Liverpool. I can honestly say it was one of the most moving, enjoyable and incredible things I have ever experienced and wouldn't have missed it for the world. I savoured every minute and when they called us up to get the Degree I cried; think it was the culmination of the 2 years hard work, the fact that my dear old mum and dad were in the audince and just the whole atmosphere. I'd say if you can then you must go, I know it's an expensive day, I was lucky enough to be able to stay with family so the expense of a hotel was eliminated straight away, the hire of the gown and official photo is an expense but you must do it. Family and friends bought me graduation presents, so if yours are offering then maybe you could suggest that they contribute to the day itself; train fare, accomodation, gown here, photos etc. I promise you you won't regret it, you've worked hard, achieved alot and should celebrate! Well done!!

I Had mine last year, and i felt the same, I wasn't going to go. But i had the best day.... it was very emontional and to have my parents with me and my over half made it even better.
You have worked so hard to gain your degree, personal If you have to money it is really worth it, it something you only get to do once!!
Well done for passing!!!

Congratulations. I didn't go to my graduation, like you it was the expense and a days leave, although it would not have cost me £200. however I now regret that I did not go, I feel my hardwork and achievement went by with no sense of recognition, if that makes sense, there was nothing to mark this achievement. If you can find the money then go, I'm sure you will be glad you did.

I went to mine last year and like yourself it was not something I had particularly looked forward to but it was a day of celebration, my uni did not give the impression that they were relishing in their own acheivement but the sucess of their students. I had family and friends with me but regret that my dear dad had passed away before he got to know that I had a place at uni so there was sadness as well. I agree it was an expensive day but then some people spend a fortune on a night out and think nothing of it. It is your day, you have worked really hard for it and so should be proud to hold your head high. I am sure that your family will consider the day a worthwihile expense and you need only do it once. Good luck!!!
