Toilet Training

can any one help me. in my setting a few of our toddlers who are coming up 3yrs will not even consider going near the toilet/potty even with alot of praise and encouragement. we dont push the children and if they say no them we leave it. most children have older siblings and no 'bad' experiences with toilets/potties. obviously parents want them out of nappies so they can go into school nursery ans we are working with them on this subject. anyone have new ideas????

Hi.
In our nursery we tried (with parents agreement) that Mum and Dad 'forgot' nappies and this did work, they were then happy to go on potty / toilet. Obviously you know your children better so you should be able to gauge whether this would work or not.

on no account allow any parent to put their child in disposable nappy pants! these merely encourage the children to carry on as before and not learn from the horrible uncomfortable wetness. A toilet time 'line'before lunch helps, when all the group use the toilet and then wash their hands before eating.tghough you may have to restrict this to over 2 1/5 s

Hello In one nursery I worked in we drew a big Humpty Dumpty sitting on a wall on a sheet of paper, and we had 4 children toilet training at the same time. Everytime they "performed" as well as lots of praise and claps we encouraged them to put a sticker or a smiley face stamp on Humpty's wall, they loved this and we all toilet trained within 2 weeks (if that). In fact the parents loved this odea so much we ended up drawing smaller Humpty's for them to carry it on at home!! And I agree DO NOT ever use the pull on nappies type pants, I have yet to come across a nursery nurse who advocates these!!!!!

Hi, i work in a early years centre and the rising three year old have to been toliet trained before they can move up to an older class. we have tryed to make the bathroom attractive to the children. so there are lots of pictures of the children on the wall, colourful potties and small books the children can look at while sitting on the potty.we also read a story to the children about potty training during group time.and we have found it works really well.
