Hello everyone. I have just got a job as a nursery nurse after being a teaching assistant for a year straight from uni. I am fully qualified but have found that the money is really dreadful. I'm getting just over £11,000. Is this normal? Think I might have to get a second job!!!

nursery nurses pay isnt very good :(
jobs in schools are usually a bit better paid than private nurseries
childrens centres and charities seem to be paid better.
What did you study at uni?
have you thought of teaching? at least its better paid :)

hiya i have worked in private nursery's for 10 years and am fully qualified and at the moment i am the room co-oridinator of pre-school room and i am currently earning £10,000 a year before tax and it is a struggle but i know of many more nursery nurses that get paid lower. I currently do private baby sitting for children at the nursery in the evenings and weekends to help me get by. I warn anyone who wants to try to do 2 jobs it does become very tiring.
