I guess with policies it can link to the settling in procedure with children when leaving their parents/carers.
Practice, it can link in with helping children to form relationships with staff so that it makes the initial separation with the parents etc easier. Also due to the attachment styles the children have with their parents it make affect their behaviour and social/emotional development, so this is something which may either be an issue or something you can use to month the child forward in these areas of development and with there stepping stones.
