After all the media on the BBC show regarding care in Nurseries I have started to worry a little bit as my daughter will bve starting in just over a month.
I have been scouring the internet and come across http://www.netnursery.co.uk, by the look, these people are setting up secure, live streaming webcams for parents to see thier children whislt at work. I personally would love to be able to see my little girl interacting with other kids and I also think it would ensure the staff were 110%.
Just wondered if anyone else has come across this concept and what your ideas are.

I am an unqualified nursery nurse and I have come across this idea before and in theory it sounds fantastic.
However in practice its not so simple if a parent logs on for a short time during the day to see how there child is doing and say the child is being disciplined or is upset this can be distressing for the parent. They might not have seen what the child is disciplined for or what the reason is for the Childs distress. When they log off they won't see what happens after. For example after discipline the child is likely to cry for a short time but will learn from the experience and play happily soon after. The parent doesn't see this and is likely to worry about it until they are able to discuss the matter with the nursery nurse.
I also feel that although measures are obviously taken to protect children it is never 100% guaranteed on the internet and is that a risk that is really worth taking.
When a parent decides to leave a child in the care of a nursery they should feel they can put there complete trust in the staff and be able to ask any questions regarding there Childs care.

I think it is a brilliant idea. I am a working mum and would love to drop in throughout the day just to have a little peek at my boy. There are so many benefits. Have a look at http://www.cybernursery.co.uk

I really have to disagree what you see in a few mins of your Childs nursery day can be very misleading you could see the only 5mins in the day that they are content and happy or the only 5mins when they are upset. In order to get a true idea of the atmosphere and care of the nursery several hours a day would have to be spent watching.

the problem is that i can see this from both sides of the arugment,as i personally work for a nursery in which we are on cctv cameras all day, every day which means that the parents can watch their children. but not from work though although i personally feel that this is a good idea in one respect that the parents know what their children are like when they leave them then they would usually see them either happy/upset but then the children could be the complete opposite all day and then react yet again when their parents come to pick them up again. so yes and no it's good/bad idea as i can see it from both sides thats all. kim x

Whatver happen to trust? I can see why parents would want to use web cams but i think they can be used for the wrong reasons. I personally wouldn't work at a nursery with web cams as i would feel that whatever i did could be wrong in the eyes of a parent who may not have childcare knowledge. I work in a creche which allows parents to stay with their children if wanted and some are very critical about how we do our job and don't understand why we do things the way we do. But that is just my personal opinion.

A web cam is a good idea! I have two daughters, one goes to a pre-school and the other has just started a Nusery. I watched the BBC Documentery and was really really upset! And had been thinking hard on how this could be resolved (and not all of us have grandparents that can look after our kid?) so we working parents have to relie on other methods! Thats why i think that the idea of having a web cab would be a good thing. Firstly We work all day and you want to know how your child is doing during the day, if we can't see our child growing up what do we live for? secondly if we pay for a service we expect the BEST. no dought there are staff who give their best than there are also staff (like in the documentry who don't care its just a job for them) than at least with a webcam we can be little assured that our child is protective to some extent?. I can only say that with a secure web cam there is some security and our minds
