You can buy a nursery and manage it without qualifications - ensuring your team of staff are qualified - However, like Janny says - its best working your way up to gain the necessary experience and credibility and respect from your staff.

By 2015 all Early years settings will need to be graduate led, the lead person having attained EYP status.
A possible route therefor would be to undertake a Foundation Dgree then year 3 of a BA. Finally you could complete the EYPS and would then be able to take the lead in any Early years setting.
There is loads of training available at the moment and there is funding out there to support it. More importantly it is good fun and makes you think about what you are doing and why!
