EYF degree...help wanted!
EYF degree...help wanted!
by: pinkgroove2k - 05-11-08 20:47
I have just started my first year on my EYF degree (someone please remind me why?!!!) and am starting to find info for my assignmnents.
One of my assignmnents is titled 'what makes a good early childhood practitioner?'
I have found some info on various government websites, and am also planning on 'interviewing' some of my colleagues.
I would like to know, though, what other childcare professionals feel makes a good practitioner? I think it will be good to have input from nursery nurses from other parts of the country/different types of settings, etc.
Thanks for your time and help, Laura.x

Hi,
Im a nursery manager for a Children's Centre and I am having some real problems with an "Early Years Practitioner" (Nursery Nurse) in the nursery because her attitude STINKS! All I ask for from my Early Years Practitioners is Quality Interactions with the children, Commitment to the job role, to be "in tune" with Key Children, excellent working relationships with parents and professionals. I want someone who is bascially "in love" with their work with children.
But with the poor training some colleges give, this is so very hard to find. I find in interviews EYP's can not even descrive Quality interactions or even explain what multi-agency working is!
Sorry for the rant!
Hope helps though!
Kerry.

Thanks everybody.
I agree with you Kerry B, there are (unfortunately) many bad attitudes within nurseries, and i do think it will only get worse as some become more and more qualified, but the pay not reflecting this. I love my job, i just feel like all the fun is being taken out of it, there seems to be SO much more to the job now than there was when i got my first job in 2002.
Purepurple, i dont think i do have a copy of the common core skills...i will have a search for them...thanks! And good luck with your assignment...WE CAN DO THIS!!!
Thanks again everyone.

Hi Kerryb
It does not sound as if the poor training relates to the EYears degree - but starts below this with training in-house to include the NVQ process now.
Are you saying that her skills with the children are non existant?
