Hi
Wondering if anyone could help me in a choice. Should I do NVQ4 CCLD or Foundation Degree at local College/OU. I have worked as a pre-school assistant/SENCO for 2 and half years now, before that I did child minding and before that I was a staff nurse on a peadiatric ward. Just wondering about your thoughts!

Hi,
Unless you are intending to finance a qualification yourself I would check funding before making any decisions. Despite having already started OU course in Feb with a view to FDEY eventually, I have just been told that I am not eligible for funding as my setting is ONLY sessional! Needless to say on a wage only just above the minimum I will not be funding a degree myself. Feeling very bitter at the moment!!

If you do a foundation degree it is a higher qualification, level 5, so maybe it may be worth doing the fou ndation degree so that you can have a higher level of qualification.

Funding is available as it is for any student. Look at www.aim higher.ac.uk you need a form PN1. Also there is funding through local authorities for private and LEA settings for the foundation degree. If all else fails you can get a student loan.

Thanks for the replies - they have made me think! I'm not sure what I am going to do in the future, at the moment I would not be able to take on the manager role of pre-school because of my own needy children, but maybe in the future when they have fled the nest.
I don't think I will have a problem with funding. I am very lucky to have a college for NVQ right next to my pre-school, this would be easy to attend and be good socially. I think that the OU lets you use NVQ 4 as 120 points towards the Foundation Degree thus leaving you one year to complete? Has anyone used this route?

Hello. can anybody confirm what is required for the foundation degree with open university. i have recently qualified to level 4 and am interested in doing the level 5. can the 4 be used towards the level 5?
