Hi Milanocentro, from my experience it's best to plan a timetable and make time for both modules, but this will depend obviously depend on how much free time you have. You will get use to it eventually as I have and I'm in my 2nd year and admit to a lot of struggles along the way! Hope this helps :)

Hi MaryKate, I admire u already as my intention is only to do (BA) in Early Childhood Studies & not the full Honours. I've just begun my 2nd year & have struggled especially as a long-distance student! Do u attend the uni or are u a long-distance student too? How have you found it & do you have any tips?! Hope to hear from you.

I joined London Met for the second level of the course which I have now completed. I have just started level 3 and aim to do the Hons. I am a distance student and do not live near my tutor, but rely on the phone as she is not computer literate. I would recomend you request a tutor who is and this would make life easier. I am too far away to use their library and rely on books borrowed from another university 25 miles away.

Hi Tunja, just read your message and was quite shocked. I'm in my second year also at London Met,live in Devon and have a fantastic tutor whom I'm in contact with on a regular basis & they are computer literate! If I was you I would get on to the uni and really explain your situation & request to change your tutor as I think it's really not fair on you. I don't know how you've done it, hats off to you! Let me know how you get on. Good Luck

Thanks for your supportive comments. I do find online journals and reports invaluable but they do expect books to appear in the bibliography too. I did complain at the begining, but have now completed nine units and am working on the tenth. Only four more after this then the report/dissertation. I think at this stage better the devil you know, at least I know how she thinks now. I also suggested a postal service for books and adding readings to the appendix of each module especially where they form part of a task and the book is unobtainable if you are not near their university.

Hi again Tunja! Well I hope you do really well and complete your dissertation. I'm only doing the(BA)and not the full (Hons). As your more experienced do u have any tips or advice? How have u got on during the course with essays etc?

To get more marks you need to be reflective and link what you write about to your own experience and to theorists and cross reference to any observation where possible. After this was explained and I imlimented it my marks rose from C's to B's & A's

Hi. i am also doing BA hons with London Met (for the past 4 years), i am nearly at the end of 2nd year. It has been hard, with full time work and a family, but worth it in the end, i hope. My tutor teaches the course and is only available during uni term time, mostly by e-mail, which i found difficult but i am organising better now. I would love to heaR from anyone doing the course.

Hi S.elkarib

How are you getting on kribby and sonia. I am struggling with the management unit at the moment (level 3) I work as a childminder and so I don't have a team. It is also the most 'airy fairy' management unit I have ever come across. I was expecting Maslow, Ford and X and Y theories etc.

I am a qualifed hospital play specialist and have worked in this role within the NHS for 8 years. I just wondered if the role of the hospital play specialiat and the importance of our work is included in your course.

It is just that I am aware that many people working in health, social care and education are unaware the role of the Hospital Play Specialist. You and your fellow students in their future careers, are likely to meet hospital play specialists at a case conference, multi professional meeting or psychosocial meeting and not understand the role the hospital play specialist may take in a child or young person's care. Also there maybe a situation in the future for you or some of your fellow students, where they may need to refer a child to a hospital play specialist, and that child's care may suffer because they are not aware or do not fully understand the the role or profession.

Has anyone one learnt about this role within their course? I would really love to know. Thanks

I completed an ADCE unit on hospital and play and shadowed a hospital play specialist for a week before completing my assignment. The Ba does cover your work but does not have a specialist unit devoted to it.

Thank you Tunja

It is really helpful to know that this topic is covered in the ADCE. Could I ask out of interest, is this unit an option unit or does everyone who does this qualification complete this unit?

I have come across many Universities in both BA's & BSc's in Childhood Studies that do not cover this work in any way at all. I don't think a whole unit or module is needed, but I do feel it should be covered, as so few professionals have heard or understand the role properly.

Thank you for your response, any other peoples views would be interesting. Thanks

Hi Tunja,
I'm still struggling with this degree! I'm still on level 2 as I had to
withdraw from some modules due to personal reasons. I'm doing Early Years Curricula & Pedagogy and Special Educational Needs. Doing this degree long-distance, really shows how hard it can be & also how long it can take. I wish I was finished!

Hi I started special needs and curriculum modules in january with London Met distance learning and finding the theories a bit hard going. Missing having feed back from others in a class.

Maybe sonia25 & deb3 & kribby would like to join me in our own discussions on modules.
my email is child.minder@virgin.net
sometimes it is helpful to have someone to discuss things with.

Hi there,
i am also doing BAECS, through Aberdeen Uni. I started last October, and have completed study skills unit, and am working on 'Creating a child's environment'. Am really enjoying the work, but find that my tutor can be slow at replying to my emails - am still waiting on feedback from first unit. Am also finding it a bit lonely with nobody to 'talk' to about it!! My email address is wilma.cameron@yahoo.co.uk if anyone would like to get in touch,
thanks, Wilma.

Hello tunja,
I'm also on the management module. Its not at all what I expected. I'm a part time nursery nurse, so can use the school team, but it all feels pretty fabricated. Maslow does appear in some of the suggested further reading particularly in Rodd (I've purchased the 2006 edition) I think this really is one that is going to hinge on reading outside of the module. Hope this helps
