We avoid using those words by saying things like:
"That's not a very nice thing to do because....."
"Don't do that because..."
I believe in explaining to even the younger babies the reason why you're telling them not to do it. It does work, majority of the time!!!
Example: one of our older babies walked through the room of the younger babies and took a toy off one of them, making them cry.
We said: "That's not very nice, you made (name) cry, taking toys makes people feel sad. Can you give it back?"
This particular child gave the toy back to the baby, and then gave them a cuddle.
